Every result on Trowelly is an estimate for planning and budgeting. It is not a guarantee of how much material you will need, and it is not professional advice.

Why real quantities differ

  • Materials vary. Weights use typical densities. Gravel, sand and soil are heavier when wet; mulch and compost vary widely by product.
  • Sites are not perfect shapes. Uneven ground, sloped sub-bases and irregular rooms all change the amount needed.
  • Coverage depends on the product and surface. Use the coverage printed on the paint can, flooring box or bag when it differs from our default.
  • Suppliers round differently. Bulk yards may be sold in half or quarter yards, with minimum loads and delivery fees.

Structural and safety work

Decks, fences, roofs, retaining walls, footings and slabs that carry loads must meet your local building code. Our calculators count materials; they do not design structures, size framing or footings, or check code compliance. Get a permit where required and consult a qualified professional for structural work.

Before you dig

In the United States, call 811 or use your state’s 811 website a few days before digging post holes or footings, so buried utility lines can be marked for free.

Prices

Cost estimates use only the prices you enter. We do not supply prices, and actual costs will include tax, delivery and other charges.
